Whatever May Remain
ISTD Award 2021: Biophilia
‘Whatever May Remain’ is a response to a brief given by ISTD by the name of ‘Biophilia’. The Biophilia hypothesis ‘suggests that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life.’. The term was first introduced by Edward O. Wilson.
‘Layered’ Typeface
The typeface was designed using fossil formations as a concept. Fossils are formed from rocks layering over the top of deceased plants, animals and other life forms, which are then hardened over time through water entering bones/other matter. The typeface took the concept into type by layering two exisiting letterforms, and filling in certain properties in each of the letterforms, creating ‘fossilised’ letterforms.
